Vol. 26  – Play Ruby Play

—– Clinton Gregory was somewhat of a renegade in the early 1990s. While very much an old-school traditionalist, Gregory and his label, Step One, bucked the Nashville trend and had some amazing success for an independent – especially for the early 1990s.

Tracks like “If It Weren’t For Country Music (I’d Go Crazy),” “Who Needs It,” and this Troy Seals piano thumper seemed to resonate with listeners – who obviously didn’t care that his name wasn’t linked to a major label. This song – originally recorded by Conway Twitty – became his biggest Billboard chart hit, hitting # 25.
