Vol. 51 — Missing You
— Kenny Rogers is in the news this week with the release of a brand new album, You Can’t Make Old Friends. The Country Music Hall of Fame inductee has had well over 20 CDX entries since the fall of 1991, with maybe the most overlooked gem being this single from February 1993.
First recorded by Steve Wariner, and later by Billy Ray Cyrus, this stands as one of the most emotional performances of his vast catalog. Rogers was going through an amicable divorce at the time from ‘Hee Haw’ star Marianne Gordon, and you can hear the pain and anguish in his delivery on this one.
