CRS 2014 is now in the history books. It was great seeing so many of you in Nashville last week for fellowship, food, music, and drink (For the record, I’m personally talking about Diet Pepsi, though some of you might have had something a little stronger). Now that you’re back to work, there’s a new CDX awaiting you that is jam packed with hit music. Let’s take a look!
There is a lot of competition for the “Jewel” of 589, but our pick goes to Hunter Hayes, with the first single from his highly-anticipated sophomore project, “Invisible.” Bullying has been a much-talked about subject as of late, but this song goes much deeper than that. Who hasn’t felt inadequate or inferior – especially during their high school days. And, you know, I bet that Hunter Hayes was not always looked at as the heartthrob he is today. He’s singing from experience. The Grammys performance was a slam dunk!
Other standout tracks on 589 include….
“I Don’t Dance” – Lee Brice / Curb Records has worked their back sides off making Brice a star. But, let’s be honest, they’ve got a lot to work with. This is a ballad that gives Brice another soulful chance to show his soulful side, and he more than takes advantage.
“Me Without You” – Jennifer Nettles – A beautiful ballad that gives Nettles a showcase for that South Georgia twang. And, what a chorus. Dang. This woman can sing. But, we knew that, didn’t we?
“Miss You” – Darius Rucker – Another quick trip to the top for the South Carolina native. He makes pain and misery sound very cool. He’s putting out some very good music these days, and this is a prime example.
And, there is similar competition for the “Hidden Gem” of 589. We’re going to go with Branch & Dean for their uptempo ode to the “perfect imperfect woman,” on their new single “Glad She’s Not An Angel.” The record is simply flawless. Vocals, lyrics, and harmonies, it’s got it all!
That being said, you definitely owe it to yourself to also check out “Lie” from Tracy Lawrence as well as the introduction to Mary Sarah, “Heartaches By The Number,” featuring the legendary Ray Price on one of his final recordings. Trust me, she’s a star! You will want to get on the bandwagon early!
