With July 4 in the books, I know that summer has only just begun. But, walk into a magazine section of your favorite store, and you will see all the football preview magazines out – offering their opinions on whether Seattle can repeat, or if Alabama can extract revenge against Auburn this November. (My money is on The Tide.) But, football season is close. Some high school teams are even practicing. It can’t come soon enough……But, in the meantime…..there’s plenty of powerful hits to go around on CDX 599. So, let’s dig in…..
There is plenty of starpower on this edition, but the “Jewel” of 599 belongs to a man who – along with David Nail – is finishing atop many polls as of late for the “Best Male Singer” in Nashville – Brett Eldredge. He has gone two for two on his last couple of singles hitting the top of the chart, and I’ll be surprised if “Mean To Me” doesn’t give him a trio of chart-toppers. He’s so soulful, and so talented. Go ahead. Add it. You’ll be glad you did! Other top moments on 599 include…..
“Roller Coaster” / Luke Bryan – Maybe the most perfect summer song out there. Bryan sells this one well, and this might bring memories of some of your favorite “Summer Nights.”
“Something Bad” / Miranda Lambert Duet with Carrie Underwood – The two dominant female vocalists in the format team up for a duet. Instant add with its’ Rock and Roll attitude.
“I Can’t Wait (Be My Wife)” / Ben Rue – Arista has them what should be a huge hit with this made-for-wedding song that will bring out the sentimental and romantic side in many. The first from Rue, but definitely not the last!
“Trailer Hitch” / Kristian Bush – The Sugarland member dazzles with his first solo single. Let’s face it. Nobody has really been familiar with what Bush can do vocally. When you’re paired with one of the most commanding vocalists of the past two decades, it’s just natural for that to be the case. But, he’s pretty good. Take a listen with an open mind. You’ll like it!
And, our “Hidden Gem” of 599 belongs to Lucas Hoge, with his intoxicating song “Flip Flops.” With summer songs, it’s not about saving the world – as much as it is making you smile. He does just that. And, his vocal scores, as well!
I’m headed to the store to see what “experts” think the Dallas Cowboys need to do in 2014. After all, it’s just about “Football Time in Tennessee” – and everywhere else! Play ball! (I know….still summer!)
