Though it isn’t officially Summertime in Music City yet, the CMA Music Festival is upon us. That usually means that Nashville will be coming out with new tunes from some of the top talent on the row. Well, 2013 is no exception. Two artists that have been involved in reality television return with impressive new singles, as does possibly the most talented male artist around. But – does either of those merit the CDX 571 “Jewel of the Disc”? And, as far as the “Hidden Gem” goes, there was a tie. We shine the spotlight on a debut single from one of the format’s most dynamic new talents – as well as one of the newest  members of the Country Music Hall Of Fame. Let’s get it started!

“Someone Somewhere Tonight” / Kellie Pickler

Yes, the “Dancing With The Stars” winner is gorgeous, and can move like nobody’s business. But, she’s also one of the format’s more expressive artists, with an undeniable range. The song itself is a powerful one, and Pickler wrings emotion out of each and every line.

“I Hope It Rains” / Jana Kramer

The Warner Music beauty has gone two for two with her first singles, but reaches into the the tempo bag for this infectious song that shows her fun side. Roll down the windows….

“Little Bit Of Everything” / Keith Urban

It’s been a while since the American Idol host has released a new single, and this one has as much personality and guitar grooves as anything he’s ever done. It’s not going to change the world, but for 3:26, you just might forget your problems!

“Whatever She’s Got” / David Nail

If you took a poll of other singers in Nashville about who the best singer in town was, chances are more than a few would utter the name of David Nail. And, on his latest single, he doesn’t let anyone down with a song that will have your toes a’tappin, and the volume turned up….LOUD!

And, the “Jewel” of CDX 571 belongs to…..”Bourbon In Kentucky.” The newest single from Dierks Bentley is one of his most powerful moments on record. It has a dramatic intro straight out of the traditions of Country Music, and a moody feel that brings to mind the late 70s sound of Merle Haggard. This is a classic in the making, and that’s a fact, Jack!

And, in the “Hidden Gem” category, we spotlight the debut single from Georgia-born bombshell Colby Dee, “He Don’t Know.” Dee has been working at her craft for several years from both a performance and songwriting level, and her debut sparkles very brightly. She has a great team around her, but the talent is completely natural. Watch out for Colby Dee. On the other end of the spectrum is one of the class of 2013 inductees into the Country Music Hall Of Fame, Bobby Bare. From his Darker Than Light album, he releases a story song called “Lookout Mountain” that is as intense and gripping as anything he has ever recorded – and if you’re a student of Country Music history, you know that’s saying a lot! From the past to the present, CDX 571 has your Country covered!
