Happy October everyone! Did I really just write what I think I did? Football season is going strong, the leaves are changing into a brown and orange tint, and believe it or not, it’s almost time to start doing your Christmas shopping for Joe Kelly. (I write what I’m told, folks!) It’s truly my favorite time of the year. Also, the fall is usually a time for great music, and CDX 580 does not let down in that regard. Picking the cream of this crop was very tough, as you have a duet between two of music’s hottest acts, a pairing between two Hall of Famers, and a ballad that just might be the finest yet from the reigning CMA Vocal Group of the Year.  Let’s dig in, why don’t we?

I struggled with the Jewel of the Disc designation this month, but I have always had a weakness for the vocals of Kimberly Schlapman from Little Big Town. She gets a rare chance to shine in the lead vocal spotlight on the latest single from Tornado, “Sober,” and it’s good….really good. Good enough to win the “Jewel” designation this month. Her vocal is so sweet yet powerful. The lyrics express a sentiment that I think we can all adhere to. But, there are some other great singles on CDX 580, such as……

“Beat Of The Music” / Brett Eldredge – Everyone is a fan of this Warner Brothers newcomer, and why not? He’s one of the most soulful singers out there, and this one sounds like another trip to the top is in order!

“We Were Us” / Keith Urban & Miranda Lambert – Sometimes, collaborations don’t live up to the expectations. This is not one of those times. This is a five-star performance that features both at the top of their games!

“You Can’t Make Old Friends” / Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton – The Country Music Hall of Fame duo is at it again, albeit with their first ballad to be released as a single. Co-written by the great Don Schlitz, this song was tailor made for the two – and they carry the emotional ballad home! Well worth a listen…

“19 You + Me” / Dan + Shay / I have to admit that I don’t know a lot about this talented duo, but they’ve got the vocal chops here on this dreamy ballad. It will make you want to fall in love…

And, in the “Hidden Gem” category this volume, we have the latest from one of the best male vocalists out there – Chris Weaver of the Chris Weaver Band. “Raise The Dead” is a ‘money’ vocal performance that will no doubt leave an impact on your listeners. All Weaver needs…is to be heard!

Have a great next couple of weeks, and we’ll see you for CDX 581!
