ANSWER:
Jimmy Webb wrote the song after seeing a lone electricity lineman atop a pole in… Washita County, Oklahoma. He agreed with Glen Campbell that “Washita” didn’t sound right when he sang it and they changed Washita to Wichita. It became a huge crossover hit for Campbell.
