The new year is here – believe it or not.  And with this new year brings an improved economy and bright hopes for these next twelve months.

It’s no secret that the music industry has faced unprecedented changes in the past several years. But, what’s that old saying about ‘the more things change, the more they remain the same”? With digital platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, etc., getting what sometimes seems to be all the attention, for those of you who didn’t see the Edison research on continued importance of radio in breaking an act, I thought you’d find the following excerpt and chart from that report interesting.

Whenever the topic of radio is broached on Saving Country Music, it solicits strong reactions from people who can’t imagine why any lover of music would ever trust their musical fate to the radio dial, especially when so many other options exist these days, whether it be SiriusXM satellite radio, streaming options like Pandora and Spotify, or popping in a good old-fashioned CD or listening it an iPod. But the simple fact remains, radio is still the most widely used format for music listeners, confirmed by a new study by Edison Research. And even more importantly, radio is where listeners go to discover new music. 75% of listeners use radio to keep up-to-date with music, while only 20% use SiriusXM, and only 18% use Spotify (see chart below).

What I also find very intriguing is that after the commanding 75% of respondents citing radio as their ‘go to’ medium to hear (new) music, 66% of them rely on input from friends and family.  Hmmm, could it be that viral marketing is just a fancy new take on word-of-mouth? As an artist do you work your fan base like it’s a job in and of itself?  No?  Too bad – it can be a real game changer.  You may have heard of this act named Taylor Swift.  Ask her how important working your fan base is.  More on that later.
In 2015, as in the past 24 years, CDX will be working with both major label and independent clients to service their music to ALL fulltime US country stations, satellite providers, syndicators and programming consultants.
We look forward to working with you to make 2015 an exciting year.

Stay tuned,
